The Black Magic collection is inspired by the concept of revealing that which has been hidden from sight, but remains ever-present. Works in this series are cast in layers of resin and then carved, shaped and sanded to reveal hidden colors, shapes and patterns.
Our one of a kind Schindler Mirror is the latest piece in this series. This square resin mirror was made for an experimental exhibition at the Schindler House in Los Angeles with pop up gallery Furth Yashar &.
The concept for the Schindler Mirror was born out of the process we created for the Black Magic Vessels. We removed large amounts of material from the vessels to reveal hidden patterns and create each piece's unique shape. Rather than discard the excess resin, we saved it and experiment with ways to re-purpose it.
Experimentation and pushing the boundaries of materials is a focal point of our studio.
By seamlessly recasting our unused fragments into larger resin blocks, we create a new material with intricate and unimagined patterns that we are then able to cut, shape and assemble into new objects without the limitations of a predetermined form.
With this new process, we are able to both infinitely reuse our material as well as explore forms previously unattainable within the confines of a mold.
The patterns and colors in this mirror are incredibly intricate and completely one of a kind!
